Are we there yet?

No! But its fine. When this was first planned we were told it was going to happen very quickly, and started making arrangements. Thankfully we didn't sell the house so we still have somewhere to live! I guess with the economic downturn things are proceeding a little more slowly than we expected but the move is still happening.

This extra time has been a blessing and a curse.

It's a problem because we had started packing and sorting. We had a few cold nights last week and I had to unpack a few boxes to find some warmer clothes.

I really would have prefered though, to arrive in Abu Dhabi during their winter so we do not arrive when its so hot, oh well, thats what air-conditioners are for I guess.

And a blessing because we get to spend more time with family and friends here in Melbourne.

Our little dog Daisy died two weeks ago and I am very grateful that didn't happen a week after I left.

I need to remember how frustrated I am feeling now, when I am in Abu Dhabi and homesickness is rearing its ugly head.

Signs

It is always a bit of a highlight of travelling to collect the funny signs you see along the way. Bert took this photo in the observation tower at the border station to Saudi Arabia.

Some more Bahrain

Even though Bahrain is an island it is joined to the mainland of Saudi Arabia with a 25 km causeway - a series of bridges and embankments. The 'Motorsport' photo was not taken along the causeway, though. Bert, being the F1 fan that he is, likes to track down GP circuits where ever he goes.

Hooters first class restaurant?

Apparently, in Bahrain it is. Bert saw these guys leaving the "restaurant" when he drove around downtown Bahrain.

Bahrain

Bert went to Bahrain for the day; he's becoming quite the jetsetter, isn't he? Bahrain is a small island nation further up into the Gulf, west of the UAE.

Giraffes anyone?

Next door to Ski Dubai is a toy shop. Bert saw these life-sized stuffed giraffes for sale there and pondered whether the granddaughters need one each? Unfortunately, baggage restrictions and all that prevented him buying them one each.
